Happy Thanksgiving!
Posted on 26. Nov, 2009 by lisa in General Relationship Advice
Please give thanks to your partner this weekend!
Tell them all your favorite things about them, make sure they know what they mean in your lives and how happy you are that you are together. Make sure they feel it.
If you are struggling in giving thanks for your long distance relationship, here are a few things that are good about long distance.

Creative Ideas – Cheesy Goodness

Get a big box (the dollar store has cheap ones). Pick a theme and load up the box things that your partner will appreciate and will make them think of you. Your theme could be bubble bath for two – with champagne glasses, bubble bath, candles and lotion; or dinner and a movie – with a gift certificate, copy of a video and chocolate kisses; or sports night – with the schedule for your partners favorite team, a jersey (that smells like you) and beer nuts. Write a note explaining how you imagine your partner using the stuff and mail it! Cheesy? Yes. Guaranteed smile? Also yes.
Want a cheesier idea? For the next week (or longer) note down all the things that your partner says they love (or is their favorite… or that they really enjoy). Then find a way to bring it all together. It could be in a box you mail to them, or in a date you plan for the next time you get together. Favorite movies, color, food, shirt, anything and everything. This is your own personal version of their favorite things. Again – a smile is guaranteed.

Long Distance Pillows?
Posted on 16. Nov, 2009 by lisa in Creative/Fun Ideas, Technology for Long Distance Relationships
New technology for long distance relationships is constantly being developed. Take, for example, the Relational Pillow, a prototype from MIT. LED lights under the pillow’s material light up in any pattern when a user touches them. Connected by WiFi, another pillow miles away suddenly illuminates in the same pattern. Group founder Patti Maes explains, “You can draw a smile on one Relational Pillow and send it to another pillow far away.” Draw a heart to convey “I love you.” Ask simple, fun questions, or illustrate something naughty when e-mailing dirty talk just doesn’t cut it.
Settlers and Carcassonne – oh my!

‘Settlers of Catan’ and ‘Carcassonne’ are both fabulous German board games. If you are a fan of these games, then you should check out http://games.asobrain.com/ where you can create a login and then play with your long distance partner. A good friend of mine uses this to connect with his brother who lives an ocean away. Great idea!
Real Couples: Peter MacKay and Jana Juginovic
Posted on 05. Nov, 2009 by lisa in Canadiana, Real Relationships
This is being talked about in Canada… Peter McKay (a Canadian politician, who has been one of Canada’s leading eligible bachelors for a number of years now) recently proposed to his long distance girlfriend!
He splits his time between Ottawa and his riding in Nova Scotia while she is currently attending Harvard University on a Nieman journalism fellowship. No one really knows anything about her… he, however, has quite the love history.
He used to date Belinda Stronach (of Magna International) – til she dumped him rather publicly. He also grabbed headlines when gossip started about him seeing Condoleezza Rice in 2006 (which was not true at all).
After all those relationships, sounds like he got pretty good at handling the long distance.

Holidays are quickly approaching
Posted on 01. Nov, 2009 by lisa in General Relationship Advice, coupledtogether
Its November! That means the winter holiday season will be here soon. I know it may seem early – but, now is probably a good time to start thinking about what things you can do for your partner to make this holiday season special.
Look back through previous ideas we have listed – more will be coming! But in general, this is just a reminder to get that little part of the back of your head thinking/noting/finding/noticing good ideas.
